Chinese native speaker with Chinese teaching & tutor experience for over six years. I have a BA in linguistics and a Master in education. I lay emphasis on encouraging students to communicate through that language, learn it through social interaction and in a cultural context. I worked as a cultural program coordinator in the US for one year. Jobs include teaching Chinese and organizing Chinese cultural events. Except for that, I worked as a part-time language teacher and have been working with over one hundred Chinese language learners. Being able to speak a language doesn't make you a good teacher of that language. I majored in linguistics so I know how to teach language scientifically. I also did my undergraduate thesis on second language acquisition. I am from Northern China and I don't speak any Chinese dialects so I speak STANDARD Mandarin with no accent and you can learn all the correct pronunications with me.
I lay emphasis on encouraging students to communicate through that language, learn it through social interaction and in a cultural context. It starts to make sense when you use it to communicate, not to pass an exam. I also use a Vygotskian ZPD(Zone of Proximal Development) approach to scaffold students to build connections between knowledge they have learned and what they are about to learn. My teaching approach is highly individualized to every student so they can study the way they need- that's the reason why you choose a private tutor!
