Chinese Canadian who immigrated to Canada over 10 years ago. Mandarin Chinese is my mother tongue, and through learning my second language, English, I understand how hard it is to pick up a second language as an adult. I am fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese which enable me to be flexible with my communication and approach so that every piece of knowledge is conveyed accurately and in a way that is memorable. I believe every person learns differently, which is why all lessons are fully customized based on the student's goal and interest. Do you game? Let's plan a curriculum around gaming; Do you like drama? We can do a curriculum plan that references Chinese drama. Or perhaps it is a current event, locally or internationally. Interest is what keeps one focused and motivated, which is why I put in extra effort to build curriculums around them. Takehomes and notes will have a lot of graphical element focus to make everything more interesting and memorable. Assessment, when needed, is developed for you personally based on your progress.

I have been learning Mandarin for over two years, and I would consider myself a beginner still. Carol truly cares for her students' learning. She makes sure to review from the previous session, and she always has a plan for the new session. Carol is very adept at explaining not only the words to use and their English equivalent, but she also gives really helpful insight into the history behind certain words/phrases and how to use them best in conversation. I would recommend Carol to anyone wanting to further their Mandarin conversation and character recognition skills.
We hired Carol to teach our 6 year old during our one month stay in Canada. Although I just expected her to review some lessons my daughter has been learning in our home country, Carol completely exceeded expectations by giving my daughter enough spark to feel confident and to have the motivation to learn more Mandarin. She always prepared her lessons, made learning completely fun and she was never late. We wish we could take Carol back to our country!
