I'm a half Italian-half Canadian tutor, born in Canada and raised in Rome. I'm fully bilingual in both languages. I love teaching and interacting with students. I've tutored Italian and English to kids and adults, beginners to advanced in Toronto, Rome and online since 2015.

I specialize in conversations and teaching beginners. I start by teaching very basic grammar and then adding on vocabulary, reading, speaking and writing. It's hands on so I get the student to do exercises and I get them to speak as much as possible. I offer crash courses, that focus on comprehension and speaking, for people who are traveling to Italy on a holiday and advance courses for people who want to become fluent in Italian. I know Rome and the Roman dialect very well, so if you're planning a trip to Rome and want to get to know my favorite (non touristy) restaurants, cafes, museums and I can help you! I really like getting to know my students and adapting the lessons to their needs.

What can I say about Maddelena, only good things, preferably in Italian, otherwise she might rebuke me! Only joking! On a serious note, I thoroughly enjoy our lessons and find Maddelena to be fun, witty and challenging. I can't say I am the easiest student but she handles me with gumption. Clearly, very knowledgable on the subject matter, so cannot recommend her highly enough.
Maddalena is an outstanding Italian tutor who really makes an effort to understand her student's learning style and individual wants and needs. I worked with her to improve my conversational Italian and to stay familiar with grammar. She structured each lesson to develop the areas that I was weak in, as well as providing activities to maintain my strengths. I would highly recommend Maddalena to anyone looking to learn or develop their Italian language knowledge.
Maddalena was great - very patient as I was a less than diligent student. Her lessons were very practical, and she was very knowledgeable. They were not particularly structured, which was fine by me. Those who are self motivated to practice at home will do well and will learn quickly!
I really enjoyed my classes with Maddalena. I spoke some Italian and met with her chiefly to improve my listening comprehension, to tune my ear, and learn phrases and grammar along the way. She has a warm personality; you won't feel judged by saying something clumsily or using the wrong word. She's very adaptable—I would recommend her to a beginner or to someone very fluent who only needed to polish their Italian. A very interesting person to converse with!
Maddalena was an incredible tutor, she was prepared to teach every aspect of the Italian language and had a very organized routine to keep the class interesting. After I finished my lessons with her I traveled to Italy and accomplished my goal of communicating succesfully in Italian. She was always punctual and fun to talk to. Highly recommended!
Maddalena is a wonderful Italian teacher. I wanted to learn the basics for my trip to Italy and only had a month to prepare. Maddalena got me beyond simple greetings. I got lost in a huge park in Rome and had the confidence and ability to ask for help in Italian and understand the directions given back to me in Italian and found my way back to my hotel. Learning from Maddalena in advance really made my trip more enjoyable, I felt more like I was getting to know Italy, rather than just touring around. In addition to the language she also gave me a lot of tips and inside info on Rome for planning my trip. Maddalena was always well prepared for our lessons with books and resources. I was impressed by her organization, but also her adaptability as I could tell she was good at gauging both my needs and my progress and she would often make adjustments to our lessons to suit me. Most impressive though is her teaching personality. She made learning Italian really fun. I left each lesson looking forward to the next and wanting to learn more and more.
