I'm originally from Belarus and am a dual citizen of Belarus and Canada. My father is from Bangladesh. I'm a native speaker of Russian and speak Belarusian and Bengali as well. I also speak French, and some Turkish, Arabic, Hindi and Urdu. I've lived in seven different countries, and am currently based in Canada. I'd be happy to work with you on any of the above languages at an appropriate level. I'm also available for other language-related projects, such as translation.
I have a BA in international relations that I got at Grinnell College in the US, an MA in Islamic studies from McGill University in Montreal, Canada, and a PhD in history, also from McGill.
I've taught both English and Russian, among other subjects, at university level in Manisa, Turkey.
I also have experience with teaching English privately, both in person and online. I have also given private Arabic and French lessons.
Additionally, I have experience with literary translation from Belarusian to English and vice versa, as well as smaller translation projects where I translated French, Russian and Ukrainian texts into English. I have also served as an English-Belarusian and English-Russian interpreter.
My teaching focuses on conversational practice at introductory levels to build up vocabulary and understanding of grammar. At intermediate and advanced levels I introduce original texts and videos in the target language to help students get into greater depth.
I'm available most days. If you're located in a different time zone from me, don't worry; we can hopefully find a time that can work for both of us.
I can meet for in-person lessons in Toronto or elsewhere in the GTA. I can also teach you online, wherever you are.
