Cuban-born university student teaches beginner and intermediate levels of Spanish from home

Education / Certificates

I am a secondary school graduate. I am currently in my first year of university at UOttawa pursuing my degree in Criminology.

Professional Experience

I have been working in the kids' After School-Program program for years, where I help them with homework in all subjects. My contribution to their learning in English and French especially, is relevant to this position.

Teaching Approach

I use a student-centered approach, adapting each lesson to your goals, level, and learning style. My techniques include:

Communicative Practice: speaking and listening activities that mimic real-life situations.

Task-Based Learning: practical exercises like roleplays, short dialogues, and problem-solving in Spanish.

Grammar in Context: instead of memorizing rules, I integrate grammar into meaningful conversations and texts.

Cultural Immersion: introducing music, articles, traditions, and current events to connect language with culture.

A Typical Lesson Plan

Warm-Up (5–10 mins) – Quick conversation or vocabulary review to get comfortable in Spanish.

Introduction of Topic (10–15 mins) – Presenting new vocabulary or grammar in a real-life context (dialogue, video, or reading).

Guided Practice (15–20 mins) – Exercises (speaking, writing, listening) that build confidence using the new material.

Interactive Activity (15–20 mins) – Roleplays, debates, or problem-solving tasks in Spanish.

Wrap-Up & Feedback (5–10 mins) – Review key points, answer questions, and assign light practice tasks.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor

Trilingual Perspective: As I also know English and French, I can explain Spanish grammar and vocabulary in ways that connect across languages.

Adaptive Teaching: I adjust my pace and methods to each learner—whether you’re a beginner, advanced, or learning for professional/academic purposes.

Engaging Style: I focus on keeping lessons interactive, fun, and motivating—so learning feels less like memorizing and more like exploring.

Cultural Depth: I emphasize not only language, but also cultural insights, which are essential for mastering Spanish.

Who the Lessons Are For

Children

High School & University Students: Support with Spanish classes, grammar, vocabulary, essay-writing, or exam prep.

Adult Learners (Beginner to Advanced): Conversation practice, travel Spanish, or professional Spanish for work.
