Native Korean and English speaker and advanced French and Spanish speaker who is passionate about language learning. Currently a university student with two years of tutoring and teaching experience. Capstone project featured "The most effective ways to learn a foreign language". Experience in working with teaching strategies, learning styles, and ideas regarding the importance of entertainment while learning.
Graduated from high school with an excellent academic standing, especially in languages. A current student at the University of British Columbia, double majoring in French Studies and Spanish Studies.
I volunteered at OneWorldLearning online tutoring organisation for over a year, tutoring up to 3 students at a time weekly, teaching English and French grammar, writing, and reading.
I have done a peer tutoring program in high school, working as a Teacher's assistant for a French class. Tasks included assisting students with the content individually and conducting full lessons on new content.
I have also received multiple opportunities to conduct full lessons in a Spanish 12 class, giving me a head start at a young age on the path towards my future career.
I believe that getting to know one another is crucial to an effective learning journey. Therefore, all depending on which area of language competencies the student needs work in and what learning style is, my lessons could vary. In the past, I have taught grammar lessons, pronunciation rules, listening strategies, etc.
Especially scaffolding techniques I use depend on the student's personality and learning style. In the past, I have done reading exercises, grammar games, trivia, TV show interpretations, etc., that are relevant to the new content that I have introduced from the lesson.
I am flexible and can easily adapt to the student's schedule.
Location does not matter as long as it is at a reasonable distance from my area and an appropriate setting for tutoring.
