With 16 years of experience, I bring both expertise and passion to language teaching. A native Persian speaker, I hold a Bachelor’s in Spanish Language and an M.A. in Hispanic Studies. My journey began as a Spanish tutor in private and semi-private institutes, where I taught a wide range of students and gained valuable insights into different learning styles and processes. Beyond the classroom, I worked as a Spanish tour guide in Iran, leading groups from Europe and South America. This experience became a bridge to the Hispanic world, allowing me to connect across cultures, strengthen my communication skills, and bring authentic cultural perspectives into my teaching.
I have two years of experience teaching Spanish at the University of British Columbia. Over the course of 16 years as a Spanish tutor, I have led more than 50 corporate classes and 100 private courses, working with students ranging in age from 7 to 50. This diverse teaching experience allowed me to develop effective strategies for managing learners with different needs and learning styles. It also deepened my knowledge of the language to the extent that I was entrusted with teaching the most advanced levels at my institutes.
In addition, I worked as a Spanish tour guide in my home country, leading groups of Hispanic tourists. This role brought me into close contact with people of varied cultures, ages, and academic backgrounds, and it strengthened my intercultural awareness while equipping me with valuable social and communication skills.
My teaching approach is student-centered and communicative, with a strong focus on helping learners use the language in real-life contexts. I combine structured grammar and vocabulary practice with interactive activities such as role-plays, discussions, and cultural explorations to keep lessons both practical and engaging.
I believe that learning a language is not only about mastering grammar and vocabulary but also about connecting with its culture and people. For this reason, I integrate authentic materials (songs, articles, videos, and stories) into my lessons to expose students to the living language as it is spoken and written today.
I also adapt my methods to the age, background, and goals of each learner, drawing from a variety of teaching resources and methodologies. This flexibility allows me to support a wide range of students, from young beginners to advanced adult learners. My multilingual background (Spanish, Persian, English, and French) further helps me build bridges across cultures and anticipate the challenges learners may face when acquiring a new language.
Ultimately, my goal is to create an encouraging, dynamic, and inclusive learning environment where students feel confident to practice, make mistakes, and grow into independent language users.

Yasaman is an excellent tutor. She's fun and engaging with each lesson, and is fully ready for each one. She knows how to encourage and challenge you in a good and fun way, and able to guide you through your learning. Her knowledge alone in each language that she has, sets a bar that I feel the need to meet if not surpass. I do highly recommend Yasaman as a tutor.
Yasaman has tutored my 13 year old son for almost a year in Persian. He went from knowing less than 5 words to conversing, reading and writing. She helped to spark his interest, so clearly her methods are working. I myself am a math tutor, and I can see that Yasaman has a strong enthusiasm for teaching. We would highly recommend her.
Yasaman was extremely helpful and flexible throughout my time of learning French and Spanish. Her style of teaching was insightful (I have tried other tutors for languages before and not quite found a match). She takes the time to plan our materials for each lesson and practice to take home. I recently completed my French course with 99.6% thanks to her help.
