I'm an experienced Spanish tutor. I've worked with students with varying skill level: From beginners to advanced and with different goals. Some want to practice speaking and listening, some want to prepare before a trip to a Spanish speaking country. Whatever their goal I'm happy to set-up the session so that it is enjoyable and fulfilling for them.
I moved to Canada when I was 15 years old, Spanish is my first language. In university I took Spanish literature courses and have been tutoring Spanish for a number of years.
I'm currently studying and developing a project on the Standard American accent and I have been learning a lot more about language, and the Spanish structure from this experience which I have found very useful in my interactions with students.
I use a preferred textbook (for beginners) and I follow the book. I create customize exercises that addresses the learnings the student needs to internalized
For more advanced students that want to practice their speaking, they choose videos/podcasts to watch/ listen and then we discuss them. I ask questions, make notes and I give feedback.
Flexible
I have really enjoyed working with Debora. She is really structured in her approach to teaching me, does a lot of upfront prep work and makes the lessons enjoyable and fun by tailoring a lot of the practice to topics you are interested in. For example, I was planning a trip to Costa Rica so she made a lot of our lessons geared to interacting with the locals whether in a restaurant, navigating town or renting a surfboard! I was able to hit the ground running and appreciated all her support. Additionally, learning a new language is a real challenge and Debora has an empathetic and encouraging approach to making sure you stay positive and motivated. Highly recommend!
