I am a native English speaker who can speak five languages, including French quite fluently, Italian and Spanish pretty fluently and decent Portuguese. I love speaking and learning languages, interacting with people of different cultures and have experience teaching English to Spanish students. I would love to have the opportunity to get to know you and help you learn.
I am a recent graduate from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts. During my time in university I already had the necessary language credits from my IB program from high school but chose to learn Portuguese as an elective, a class in which I did well. I am now looking to get into a Masters Program later this year.
I have experience teaching languages, having taught English in Spain at a summer camp to Spanish teenagers. I have been learning French since a very young age and spoke it well enough to have been chosen to do official guided tours in French at the Canadian Parliament. I also have spoken Italian since I moved to Italy 13 years ago, where i lived until 2020. I have also spoken Spanish since 2015, though I still do not have too much experience speaking it lately.
My teaching method is quite flexible and depends on the needs of the individual. I believe it is important to cover all 3 primary aspects of language learning: reading, writing and speaking. As such, I would practice all three but I believe that especially within the context of online tutoring, oral progress through conversations out loud reading is what helps most to make language learners more confident in their ability. I believe that homework is good to assign but isn't strictly necessary depending on the student's circumstances. Ultimately, I believe that asking and then figuring out from the student what they most need is the best approach to successful tutoring.
I am very flexible and can adapt to pretty much whenever a student is available. I could work any time between 9 am and 9 pm except on Sundays, where I could work in the afternoon but would prefer not to unless there are no other options.
I am available and would prefer to work from my home at any time but I am also willing to go to the client's home within a 5 km range from my house (if they're comfortable with that) or to a public place. I am quite flexible.
