I'm a native Spanish speaker with several years of tutoring experience. I'm a linguist currently working at the Argentinian Academy of Letters, as the Director of the Linguistic Research Department. I work on lexicography, either for our own dictionary or for projects housed by the Spanish Royal Academy and on Corpus Linguistics. For several years now, I've been studying the different strategies speakers deploy as a way of being more inclusive in Spanish. I have several publications about that and get asked about it fairly regularly by the media. I'm one of the hosts of the podcast "Hablando mal y pronto". My preferred pronouns are he/him/his/él/lo.

Professional Experience

I've been a classroom tutor of Spanish as second language at the University of Western Ontario for the duration of my graduate studies, teaching at beginner and intermediate levels, and, also, in a one on one setting in Buenos Aires. Between 2016 and 2019, I've taught academic writing in Spanish at the Di Tella University in Buenos Aires. Even though I haven't done it in the past, I'm confident I can help graduate students currently writing their theses or academic articles in Spanish by guiding them through the writing process. Additionally, I can review written samples to identify problems and come up with the specific solutions that are available for each student.

Teaching Approach

I have different approaches depending on the specific needs of the students. I believe in second language learning based on communication rather than on a grammar-focused approach. That said, I can get deep into the grammar side of things if need be. If the student has a particular subject of interest, I can either get materials about that or work with what the student brings to discuss it at length during the class.

Availability

I have a lot of flexibility, except for Mondays and Wednesday's in the afternoon (the schedule is based on Toronto time).

Teaching Place(s)

I don't expect to do a lot of in person teaching, but if it happens I'll be glad to go to wherever the students needs me to be in the city of Buenos Aires (within reason).
