I am a very experienced French and ESL teacher with over 30 years of experience in language teaching. I have been tutoring children in Core French for the past six years and will be entering my seventh year in September, 2026. I have also taught business English/ESL for international students entering the insurance field. I learned French while growing up with a bilingual father and brother and having many Francophone visitors to the home as well as having a French-speaking neighbour (mother of my best friend). I am patient, skilled, and creative. I enjoy teaching both children and adults and am adept in teaching all four skills areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. I also ensure that students get vocabulary-building and pronunciation practice. Both French and English lessons have components for real-life experiences.
I have my B.A. in English and German with a minor in French, my Bachelor of Education with a Manitoba Teacher's Certificate, my Language Assessor's Certificate, my TESL Certificate at Level 2, and a Master of Library and Information Science.
I have taught at several major service-providing agencies in Winnipeg, as well as in Ontario and Saskatchewan.
ESL: I know the Canadian Language Benchmarks very well and teach in accordance with the best practices of the English as a Second Language profession.
I use the Communicative Language Method. I believe in interacting with the student(s) and want students to become involved in the process of learning. As a result, I provide students with real-world activities and materials. I also focus on the things that they are interested in learning or need to learn in school.
Most evenings and Saturday morning for children. ESL adults should contact me about availability.
I prefer to work out of my home office. I am willing to meet with a student in a public place as long as it is not too far for me to drive; I have other students who come to my home, so a long drive would not be feasible.
