I am an experienced tutor/teaching/coach with extensive experience working with all age groups in both professional and volunteer capacities. I have an Honours Degree in English and Education and am an a registered teacher with the Ontario College of Teachers. I have taught in private and public schools and am currently a volunteer adult literacy tutor in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
I have a double Honours Bachelor Degree in English and Education. I have taken various certifications in adult development and am a certified CTI Leadership Coach.
Most recently I was a volunteer in Spain with VaughanTown assisting native Spanish speakers improve their English in an immersion program. I am also a volunteer tutor in the Adult Literacy Program provided by the Ontario government. I volunteered as a literacy tutor for Frontier College and worked with a young adult who was seeking to pass her high school equivalency test. I have run my own tutoring business and have taught in private and public schools working with all age groups. I was a supply teacher for a couple of years and taught at several very different schools, two of which brought me on as an short term occasional teacher.
I plan to teach based on the Learning House CELTA certification course I am currently enrolled in which is rooted in sound pedagogy and age appropriate instruction e.g. the reading material for adults is age specific. My teaching approach has always been based on encouragement, positive feedback, accommodation of learning styles and a belief in every students' ability to learn and excel.
